Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week on the water
Comprising six sailing clubs and a town regatta committee, each with their distinct personality, the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association is the reason why Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week continues to be successful year on year. Indeed, the event wouldn’t exist without the sheer devotion of the club members who work hard all year round to administer the Week on the water.

The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club
In 1871, the Mayor of falmouth petitioned HRH The Prince of Wales to become patron of a newly-formed yacht club, inspired by the regattas that had been held in the port for many years. The Prince – later King Edward VII – granted his onsent and sanction was given by the Admiralty for Club members to fly the blue Defaced Ensign and the Home Office gave permission fro the word ‘Royal’ to be incorporated in the Club’s name. Today, HRH The Prince of Wales, whose plume appears on the Club’s ensign, is its Patron. In recent years, the Club has hosted many sailing events including the Dragon Gold Cup and Edinburgh Cup, the Atlantic Challenge, the J/80 World Championship, the J/24 Nationals, the Sigma Nationals, and the demanding Azores & Back Race (AZAB), which they hold every four years for single- and double-handed competition. The Club’s continued involvement in the RYA Seamanship Foundation’s tuition for blind and partially-sighted students proves that sailing really is a sport that can be enjoyed by all. Falmouth Town Regatta is unique - it is not hosted by a club, but by a committee, which exists solely to stage the Champagne Day. The Committee is made up of local sailors and town representatives, with the Mayor of Falmouth as President. First run in 1955, this year’s Champagne Day is sponsored by Marks & Spencer, with a coastal course of between 25 and 30 miles for the
larger keel boats, and racing for the smaller boats in Falmouth Bay and Carrick Roads. www.falmouthweek.co.uk
